In the negotiating sessions she is known for taking a stance which is modelled after her late president Hugo Chavez, one that is more focused on defending national sovereignty than on climate change. Staunch allies include Bolivia, Nicaragua and Cuba, but also those countries who cannot overtly speak out against the U.S.
